A New President Is Announced

December 13th, 2009 · No Comments · Station News

mal-favagerA great round of applause greeted the news of NCR’s new president, Mal Favager, at the member’s meeting on the 12th December. Mal, who is better known as Alfie Noakes, has been a member since 1999, and stalwarts will remember his show Gravy on Your Cornflakes. As well as sponsoring NCR with his business, Noosaville Smash Repairs, after a 4 year break he’s now back as host of Friday Breakfast at 6am. Mal hails from Birkenhead, Merseyside in the U.K., arriving here in 1977. He had this to say during his inaugural speech:

“As president, I want to continue that passionate, one big happy family atmosphere here at Noosa Community Radio, where our appreciation, praise and recognition will be openly shown for any help, input or voluntary work, carried out. We are entering new and exciting times at Noosa Community Radio.“

We are entering new and exciting times at Noosa Community Radio, especially regarding who and what goes to air. Our programming committee, in conjunction with management, will be implementing a system of quality control in the near future, and we will have new and exciting youth projects and events in place, including projects for schools, the disadvantaged and those with disabilities.

Our training procedures will be overhauled to ensure trainees finish the course with flying colours, and mentoring will be introduced to assist our valuable trainees through their first block or two to ensure they have what it takes, and perform to the best of their ability and it is vital to the station’s long term survival that we bring in more young people.

We, (the team) can’t stress enough, about the need for more voluntary work to be done in and around the station. There is always something to be done. Myself, and five other members recently attended the CBAA national conference in Brisbane and returned with a wealth of knowledge and ideas. We met many like minded, passionate, community radio people from all over Australia, creating new friends and contacts within the community of radio stations. This will help us grow into the number one station on the Sunshine coast, then number one in Qld, then Australia AND THEN THE WORLD!!

To all long term members, who have helped manage and run the station in the past, and no longer do so for whatever reason, we do need your input, advice and participation in future happenings – we respect every one of you, as elders of our family.

Our Management team want to get to know everyone! Let’s give that a start by all getting to our Christmas party.

Alfie
