National Week of Action for Live Animal Export

The footage aired on the ABC’s Four Corners of the treatment of Australian cattle in Indonesian abattoirs sparked a massive public outcry toward the exporting of Live Animals resulting in a six month suspension of the trade. On the 20th June Tasmanian MP, Andrew Wilkie and SA Senator, Nick Xenophon will submit a bill to Parliament that would end all live animal exports. The Animals Australia National Week of Action is a way for you to join the campaign to ban live animal export once and for all.

101.3 FM Flood Relief Toy Appeal on Ch 7

The Floods in South East Queensland have brought on a wave of generosity from the local community. Noosa Community Radio has been running a Toy Appeal for the children of flood affected areas with the hope of bringing back a little bit of Christmas cheer to those that have lost so much. Here is the special report aired on Channel 7 local news 10th February. The radio crew will be delivering the sack full of goodies in the next few weeks. Thank you to all those that have already donated, your support is overwhelming and, no doubt, will be greatly appreciated by the children. There is still time to drop off new toys for the appeal at 60 Noosa Heads Drive, Noosa Heads, directly opposite the Post Office.

Australia Day 2011

The Australia Day celebrations in the the Lions Park on Gympie Terrace welcomed our new citizens and awarded our ‘Local Legends’ for their contribution to the community. Among the award finalists was the famous Betty Wallace from Betty’s Burgers, entertainer Andrew Lawson and our very own Mark Rodriquez from Noosa Community Radio. The environmental award was graciously received by Joe Jurisevic for his efforts to the Noosa district with the Clean up Australia Day campaign. 101.3 FM was there to support the occasion and to capture the highlights. Special thanks to Melco Lanhams Mitre 10 in Noosaville for their kind donation of a BBQ as the raffle prize.

Noosa Community Radio has been nominated for two awards for the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. Nominated in the category of Best Spoken Word is Mark Rodriquez and Diet Simon for the report on the celebration of the historical decision on the Traveston Dam. Nominated in the category of Contribution to Local Music is Jacqui Burns for the Dreaming Special.
Good luck to our presenters. The awards will be presented at the 2010 CBAA Conference held in Hobart from the 21st-24th Oct.
