For those who could not make it to the Noosa Jazz Festival on Saturday afternoon the 5th of September, the crew from 101.3FM set up their gear and broadcast the afternoon’s event live. With Brian Fane and Wayne Carlson at the microphones, and Rob Bailie producing, with the help of Leon and Joy, we had an excellent afternoon’s jazz.

While we were setting up some terrific local school bands played Jazz and Rhythm and Blues numbers, kicked off by the Nambour State High School show band.

We began our broadcast with the Melbourne Trad Jazz band the Syncopators, whose tight, melodic playing delighted the crowd. They were followed by the San Francisco-based band Natural Gas, who played equally terrific
Trad jazz numbers. We were puzzled by one member’s massive white wind instrument, agreeing that it was a souzaphone: a type of tuba.

Something else that fascinated us was one of the performers at the Festival… George Washingmachine. We are reliably informed by our “Queen of Knowledge” that Mr Washingmachine, while being his mother’s husband, was not George’s real father. Nevertheless, we loved his name, as well as his music.

Deb, Sharon and Mirin manned the front desk, selling tickets to our $1000 raffle and answering questions about 101.3FM, while Diet provided moral support – and marble cake!

Noosa turned on a superb sunny day, and a good time was had by all.
