Kin Kin quarry suspended!
August 4th, 2010 · Community, Interviews, Podcasts
The company developing the controversial Kin Kin quarry has been ordered to suspend operations by the Queensland government’s Mines Inspectorate. That emerges from original government documents emailed to Diet Simon by a quarry opponent, Margaret Marshall. They were sent to her in response to her formal complaint to the Directorate and her sending in to them photographs of a blasting. This just goes to show what can be done when people stand up for what they believe in. One woman sent her photos and complaint to the right governing body and they are now forcing the issue of compliance. Kin Kin has won a reprieve for now. Stay tuned to Noosa Community Radio for further updates on the quarry and its proposed expansion. Diet presents what the mines inspectorate had to say, then Margaret Marshall talks to Mark Rodriquez.

Coal mining threat to the Mary River
July 29th, 2010 · Community, Interviews, Podcasts
More environmental devastation is on the books for the region to the north of Noosa. Not to mention the health effects on the people 2.15 km away from this newly planned coal mine, with a huge capacity…which will spill in to the Mary River. It’s right next to a little town called Aldershot, which is just outside Maryborough .The Aldershot And District Against the Mine (AADAM) group are alarmed about the Colton coal proposal at Aldershot and also about planned coal projects from Gympie to Tiaro and beyond. If this project at Aldershot gets the go ahead just 2.15 Km from residents, it will set a precedent for the whole of the north coast, as it did in the Newcastle Hunter region of NSW. The wash water will be headed for the Mary River, among other huge environmental and health concerns. The Traveston dam may be over for now, but the Mary River and the people living around it, are still a long way from being safe. Steve Harding, president of AADAM, explains.

We were at the Eumundi Food Fest.
July 18th, 2010 · Community, Interviews, Outside Broadcast
On 20 June, we had the pleasure to bring our listeners a taste of the Eumundi Food Fest, an official part of the Noosa Longweekend festivities. Radio to drool by! On hand were the wizard, Harry M (tech) Deryk Webb (apprentice tech and presenter) Scott Robinson, Therase Burke and Rob Gibbs (presenters) Sherry Corcoran (secret shopper, food tester, taste-buds promoter and station sponsorship gal) Gayle Nicholson (the all important gopher) and Chris Lofven (just being there!)
For both visitors and locals, the Eumundi Food Fest was a memorable day. Sunny and not too cold. We were treated to a myriad of stalls with locally grown produce, freshly cooked delights with an international flavour, wine tasting, freshly brewed coffee, locally brewed ginger beer, freshly squeezed juices and so much more.
The cooking demonstrations were very popular, and to add even more to do, there was a display from the Noosa Classic Car Club. Entertainment was spread around by local musicians including Harii Bandhu.
Smiles were the order of the day…when you weren’t eating.
