Away at present
Hailing from England originally I have lived in Australia since 1962, arriving here at the age of ten. All my schooling was done at St Albans High School in Victoria.
My Community Radio experience dates back to around 1984 when I did my training at the Rockhampton Community Radio station 4YOU. Having finished my training I started my on air experience every Saturday morning with Saturday Morning Magazine and every Sunday with Sunday Morning Magic, both easy listening music programs. I remained with 4YOU until my transfer to the Sunshine Coast in 1995. On my arrival I started my Sunshine Coast radio gig with a fledgling station who were trying to get their licence, I spent 12 months on air with the Buderim station Access FM operating out of the old Ginger Factory markets in King Street. It was while I was with Access FM that I saw a story in the local paper about Noosa Community Radio and I immediately contacted the then President Andrew Tucker who welcomed me with open arms as he did with all new members. I was given a fast track training due to my previous training and experience. I got a programme which just happened to be Wednesday Morning Breakfast which I enjoyed very much. I co hosted with a trainee at the time and her name was Jo Jo. A very successful teaming and I enjoyed my time with the station. I spent about four years with the station until I lost my job with the Queensland Cancer Fund and felt a little uncomfortable plus transport was a problem after losing my company car.
I rejoined the station in around 2005 when I was offered a Saturday afternoon show of easy listening music through the years my show at that time was called The Time Tunnel. This has now evolved into a alternate Saturday afternoon show called Saturday Arvo Cuppa with Garry T (or Relax With Me) plus a couple of years ago I managed to get the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Show which I thoroughly enjoy. I am trying to make it show which incorporates Charities and Community groups, and I am always interested in hearing from groups that listeners may not know a lot about and it is their opportunity to come into the studio and talk about their work and how the public can help.
During my time at the station I have being fortunate enough to be on the Programming Committee and the Training Committee. I am presently on the training team and thoroughly enjoying the challenge to bring new voices to on air standard.
My taste in music covers all genres except for heavy metal and really heavy opera or classical plus I find it hard to listen to modern jazz.
