Enjoyment of our Noosa River is increasingly endangered as Council and governments ignore a growing clutter of unseaworthy and semi-sunken wrecks, and a host of environmental concerns. Mark Rodriquez has been talking to Julian McNamara, a litigation lawyer about potential damage claims, Nathan Evans a journalist with The Noosa Journal, about that paper’s championing a drive to clean up the river, our state MP Glen Elmes’ intention to take the issue to the government and Council’s Raoul Weychardt, Project Director of Regional Strategy & Planning about progress on the Noosa River Plan on What’s Going On? Wednesday evening 28 October.

A federal court case resumes in Brisbane on Monday the 9th of November that challenges a 24 million dollar fishlift which has lifted three juvenile lungfish over a dam wall in three years. That failed technology on the Paradise Dam near Maryborough is also planned for Traveston. The opponents of that dam fear that the federal environment minister, Peter Garrett, might approve the dam before that court case is decided. Garrett has said he’s waiting for more input from his department, expert scientific information and any other relevant material. Five Save the Mary River people have just been in Canberra lobbying pollies and addressing an international conference. Diet Simon talked to Glenda Pickersgill, president of the Save the Mary Coordinating Group, cattle farmer and environment scientist.
